In August 2025, the city of Worcester, Massachusetts named a street after rapper Joyner Lucas. The street is at Dewey and Chandler Streets. The city did it to honor him for being from
Worcester and becoming successful in hip hop and giving back to the community. Although most celebrate with Joyner and his success, some locally known Worcester Hip Hop Artists and some of Worcester's youth had mixed feelings.
A Facebook profile quoted saying “there’s other people out here really in the community doing things that deserve it“ or this profile saying “The city giving a celebrity who doesn’t do anything contributing for the community is so corny , like when has that dude host a Christmas drive for the children or a back to school drive for the children ? Yet again local businesses who are hardly making it by are the ones doing free cuts, supplies and FREE FOOD . Man said music and food trucks that 10/10 you’ll have to pay for lmao . like be so fr“ . Do you believe this is just Hate or Would you Agree? Joyner was also seen on Facebook replying to some of these very comments saying
"What’s even crazier is there’s no way around it. End of the day if I showed n***az even 10% of the money I have donated to this city in various ways for the past 7 years then n***az would call me a clout chaser. We talking countless back to school drives & supplies, foundations, funerals, non profits, churches, putting n***az on my stages in front of thousands FOR FREE, putting n***az in my music videos as lead actors and actresses, sharing n***az music & videos to millions followers across all my social platforms, buying groceries for thousands of single mothers, paying first last and securities to help people get into cribs, putting homeless people in hotels, bringing n***az on tour and giving them jobs, opening up businesses and giving n***az jobs, putting on JOYNER FEST here and letting Worcester n***az perform free of charge and every FEST cost me hundreds and thousands of dollars. Even when it’s time to vote for the next mayor or city council, I have also used my status to help promote certain political people to win elections & get votes because if certain people win then that ultimately keeps certain things funded behind closed doors that these idiots don’t even know benefits them. Shit like that has helped me earn the respect from the city on a political level. I’ve went to schools & colleges and talked to kids. list goes on and on. When I share that kinda shit tho then niggaz will say I’m clout chasing. If I don’t talk about it and be “humble” then Its “he don’t do shit for the city. lol n***az think I got my own day in Boston, the key to city and now my own street name becuz I make great music. But F**k all that tho….I appreciate all the love from those of you who support me and been supporting me even when a lot of these f**k n***az & bitches talk shit. It’s all part of the game I guess. Can’t have success without some form of hate.“
