Max B’s Homecoming: A Look at His Return and the New England Hip-Hop Response

On November 9, 2025, Max B (born Charly Wingate) walked out of prison after serving over 15 years — a moment that has reverberated across hip-hop culture. His original sentence was 75 years after a conviction in 2009 for his role in a robbery that resulted in a man’s death; the sentence was later reduced to allow his release in 2025. That long stretch behind bars did not erase his influence or his network, he came home and got right back in motion. In the Midst of Celebration here in the New England Hip Hop community there also seems to be some confusion. Some posts are social media and headlines stating Max B is from Brockton, MA. Let’s Clear that up…. While Max B is historically tied to Harlem and the larger New York tri-state hip-hop world, there are several threads that connect him to New England. He has worked and been around New England Hip Hop Creatives and Artists such as Mall G, Frank Nino of Force The Win Podcast, MassFleet DJ EA Sports, Wally Sparks, DJ Chizzle, and many more. He onced signed with the independent label Amalgam Digital, based in East Boston, Massachusetts. With so much being posted about Max B one thing is clear: the “wave” is back, and New England has a seat at its edge.
